EPU vs. DES power war wages on in Taipei @ Tweaktown
2008-05-16 08:28:28Just as ASUS issues a statement on its website stating that Gigabyte made false claims to media at a press event held last week regarding some of its new technology, the ASUS EPU vs. Gigabyte DES power saving wars battle on. I think personally we are in for a good show as both motherboard giants battle it out. At its press event in Taipei this afternoon, ASUS demonstrated two Intel X48 based motherboards using the exact same components and software (and a couple of models that went down rather well with the men in the crowd). There are no prizes for guessing which other brand board was involved in the exercise. Of course, it was Gigabyte’s X48-DQ6 (DDR2) and the ASUS P5E Deluxe (also DDR2). ASUS tested EPU and DES in a live demonstration to attending press and the results surprised us a little.
Asus C90S Laptop Barebones review @ Techspot
2008-05-16 08:28:05Unlike conventional laptop computers, the C90S is an upgradeable laptop, meaning that the user is free to replace many of its core components including the processor and the graphics card. Possibly even more interesting than this is Asus' choice of platform, not quite the standard for a mobile system. The Asus C90S is powered by Core 2 desktop processors rather than the 'Merom' mobile variety. That includes support for the 800MHz FSB Allendale models, as well as the 1066MHz FSB Conroe processors. It is possible, then, to configure the C90S with a Core 2 Extreme X6800 processor operating at 2.93GHz if you'd choose to do so, which certainly makes the C90S a very unique laptop, or should we say mobile desktop replacement.
Lite-On DX-401S Blu-ray USB2.0 ROM Drive @ Tweaktown
2008-05-16 08:27:47Today we get a look at our second Blu-ray ROM drive to hit our labs, and this time it is from Philips & Lite-On Digital Solutions Corp based out of Taiwan. It actually came to us straight off the factory production line and we are excited to bring you the first review of the product. The first drive we tested was an internal SATA Blu-ray burner as we mentioned just before from ASUS, and while it was cheaper than standalone players, it still had a pretty high asking price. Today we get down and dirty with the Lite-On DX-401S 4X Blu-ray ROM drive which connects to your Windows XP SP2 or Windows Vista based computer via a spare USB 2.0 port. It is essentially a Lite-On DH-4O1S internal SATA Blu-ray ROM placed inside a stylish black and white plastic box with USB 2.0 port and external AC power supply

I4U: Asus P527 GPS Smartphone Review @ I4U
2008-05-15 08:00:56
Today we are checking out a smartphone that features GPS and more from Asus called the Asus P527. This phone has some very interesting GPS software that comes with the device. The software included with the Asus P527 is very interesting though with the ability to capture images with the camera on the phone and append them to a GPS route that can be uploaded to Google Earth. The software also allows for reporting your GPS position to contacts on pre-defined lists.
