Aerogate 3 Fan Controller Review

Introduction

The Aerogate 3 is the latest Coolermaster fan controller. I got it because I was tired of having all of my fan knobs in the back of the case. It works pretty well, though there were a few issues.

In the Box

I felt the box seemed a little small, but it had everything that I needed. On the outside, it is a rather sickening shade of purple, with lots of little notes about what the controller does.

On the inside, there was the controller itself, 4 temperature monitors, 4 extension cables for your fans, a power extension cable, and a bunch of screws.

Installation

Installing it was a bit tricky. The temperature plugs are not labeled so it took a little trial and error to figure out which one was which. The controller itself was not that deep, which made it much easier to hook up all the cables; however, it was not compatible with my X-Blade's drive rails, so I ended up screwing it in.

Hooking up the fans was very simple. Just connect the fans to the fan controller, and it is ready to go. You need to remember that the controller itself needs a power connection...

Using it

It is extremely easy to use. It has a simple button based menu system where you can adjust the speed of the fans, see how many RPM's they are running at, set an alarm, and check your temperature. The screen is very easy to read, but it would be nice to have a two line screen, instead of a one line one.

Changing the speed of your fan couldn't be simpler. Select the fan that you want, and then use the up and down buttons to change the speed. There are some issues with this though, it moves it very large increments, and doesn't have the control that a knob would give you. Also, changing the speed of LED fans, changes the brightness of them.

Viewing the temperature consists of selecting the TEMP menu, and selecting the probe that you that you want to view. You can also change between Celsius and Fahrenheit by pressing a button.

Finally, there is an idle mode which will randomly display your information on the screen. I tend to leave it in this mode most of the time, simply because it is the most convenient.

Conclusion

This is a good fan controller, but it does have some flaws. If you can live with dim LED fans, and a coarse control, grab it, if not, stick with the analog controllers.
