Sunbeam Chameleon Review

Introduction:

Today's review is on the Sunbeam Chameleon. It consists of a set of four led cannons, and a small control box. The control box controls the brightness of the Red, Green, and Blue leds in the cannons. This means that you can set up almost any color that you want with it very easily.

I apologize for the quality of the pictures. My camera has a tough time with the LEDs.

In the Box:

The box is bright, and has pictures of the lights in all different colors. On the back, it has a list of features, and what color the control box is. I got the black one, but there is also a white one.

Inside the box, everything is surrounded with bubble wrap, meaning that this should be able to be shipped safely. The bubble wrap also keeps the cannons from bumping into the control box.

There is also a small pamphlet showing how to remove the power cables without damaging them.

The Cannons:

The Cannons are small, and look basically like the normal LED's cannons that you can buy separately at places like Newegg. The main difference is that these have three leds instead of just one. They are all clear, with a large focusing bubble on the front of them that is supposed to make them brighter.

They install with precut velcro tape. This lets you put them virtually anywhere in your case, and also makes it easy to remove them when you are working inside your case.

The major problem I found with the cannons is that they aren't that bright unless all the color knobs are maxed.

The Control Box:

The control box is a 5.25" faceplate that has 3 knobs to adjust the color of the cannons, and an on/off switch. The cannons connect to it with small power cables.

While this sounds nice on paper, there are a couple flaws with it.

First and foremost, it is impossible to install in a case that has a tool-free design. Fortunately, my X-Blade has screw holes for the 5.25" bays. Secondly, the faceplate feels very flimsy, and doesn't fit flush with my other drives. The final issue is that the 3 leds on the front that show what colors the knobs adjust are *very* bright. Blindingly bright. Bright enough that you can still see them through the black electrical tape I covered them with. Furthermore, the knobs themselves have  graphics that are supposed to demonstrate how bright the colors are supposed to be, but they aren't arranged correctly.

Conclusion:

This is a nice addition to your case if you like lights that you can adjust. You can pick virtually any color you want, from green to red to orange to yellow to white, and almost everything in between.

If you can live the less than perfect control box this will be great for anyone who wants more lights for their computer.
