Far Cry Demo and SoftTH

Far Cry is a good island/jungle themed FPS. Unlike Fear, which naturally works well with SoftTH, the demo for Far Cry took a little more work to get to run. I'm hoping that the full version of Far Cry is a bit more compatible. I should be able to get my hands on a copy within the next few weeks, so I'll try that then.

Setup Instructions

Setting up SoftTH with the Far Cry Demo is a little complicated.

First, you need to copy the d3d8.dll, d3d9.dll, and softh.cfg files to the root directory of the Far Cry folder. After that, run the game, and select your resolution. The new triple-head resolutions should be added to the list.

When that is done, load up the first level, and make sure that all everything is displayed properly. If it is, exit the game, and open up the Far Cry directory. From there, go to scripts\default\hud, and open up zoomview.lua in a text editor. Change the "NoZoom = 90 * 3.1415962 / 180," line to read "NoZoom = 170 * 3.1415962 / 180," Then save the file, and get into the game. While you could set it to 180 for a full 180 view, the game doesn't render properly. Now, after each level loads, just quick zoom in, and when you zoom back out, you will have the nice FOV.

As I mentioned earlier the game is not perfect in it's handling. The draw distance is much lower with that high of a FOV. Hopefully, the full version runs a bit better. I'll add a page for it as soon as I get it.
