Windows 7 – Open Command Window Here

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

If you do a lot of work from the command prompt, it can be annoying having to type in the full path of the directory you want to go to every time you open a prompt. With older versions of Windows, you could run a registry hack to add the option of opening a command prompt on the right click menu.

With Windows 7, the functionality is built-in and enabled by default. All you have to do, is to shift-right click on the directory that you want to open a command prompt in, and click on “Open Command Window Here”.

Math Input Panel

One of Windows 7′s less mentioned features is the Math Input panel. It allows you to use the mouse or tablet to draw in a math equation, which it then converts to text that can be inputted into Word.

As you can see from the above screenshot, it takes most of the common symbols without blinking. I did that with the mouse, it’d be even better with a tablet.

I went through, entering a lot of the more obscure math symbols, and it never faltered with translating them to text.

This program is extremely useful for anyone who regularly uses complex math equations in their documents.
